Lost in infinite space.
Some perceive boundless space as the ultimate form of peace and comfort. In my experience, the opposite is true. The Red Sea, October 22, 2008. The diving conditions are perfect. We descend to a depth of 20 meters and enter "the blue." All points of reference suddenly vanish. Everything is "blue". Left, right, above, and below. Nothing but blue. This wasn't unfamiliar to me, yet this time it feels distinctly uncomfortable and threatening when the space around me becomes "total." I retreat, searching for control, grounding, and comfort.
